What a Difference a Day Makes!

Tuesday 28 November 2023 is officially GivingTuesday.

We see this opportunity as the ideal counterpoint to the excesses we’re influenced to ascribe as generosity during the holiday season.

  • GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past 11 years, this idea has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organisations to transform their communities and the world.

We wholeheartedly support the GivingTuesday mission, as a charity that has championed for equality and social change in the arts for over 36 years. We rely on the generosity of spirit of all our supporters to continue to push the boundaries of Black made British theatre.

Deeply rich and refreshingly thought-provoking, for generations Black British theatre has inspired, stimulated and enriched British theatre for all. Despite this, Global Majority creatives are significantly under-represented within the theatre industry. This is not for lack of talent. Black creatives face specific barriers that hinder their progression and artistic development. These include:

    • Financial Barriers
    • Lack of Confidence
    • Limited Networks

Through the power of theatre, we at Talawa work to overcome such barriers, providing Black creatives with the security, knowledge and platform to succeed within the industry.

There are a number of ways to support us:

  • 1. Donate directly to us. All amounts are welcome and truly appreciated.

  • 2. Sign up to our monthly newsletter "Wha Gwan" to hear about upcoming volunteer opportunities

  • 3. Share Talawa among your friends via Social Media to help extend our reach
