Talawa Theatre Company was proud to present Talawa Firsts, 11 - 29 June 2018.

Take Part Mondays: Provocation, participation and the chance to learn with Talawa at Shoreditch Town Hall. 

Thursdays: A showcase for new, exciting work by emerging playwrights in staged readings at Rich Mix. 

Fridays: A platform for diverse, inspiring and exciting theatre makers in mixed bills at Rich Mix. 

All venues are fully accessible.


Take Part Monday events are presented in association with Shoreditch Town Hall.

Getting to Shoreditch Town Hall: The Council Chamber, Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, London, EC1V 9LT.   The nearest underground station is Old Street and the nearest overground station is Shoreditch High Street.


Thursdays and Fridays are presented in association with Rich Mix.   

Getting to Rich Mix: Venue 2, Rich Mix, 35 - 47 Bethnal Green Road London E1 6LA. Shoreditch High Street is the nearest tube station - turn left as you exit, then right.   Other tube stations close by include Liverpool Street (Central, Hammersmith & City, District and Metropolitan lines), Old Street (Northern line), Bethnal Green (Central line) and Aldgate East (Hammersmith & City, District lines).

Talawa Firsts gives artists space to meet, spark off ideas, build networks and become the next generation to shape British theatre.

Talawa Firsts is an annual festival that kick starts the careers of writers and theatre makers.

We were delighted to be working in association with Rich Mix and Shoreditch Town Hall to bring you Talawa Firsts 2018.

Monday 11 June: BRING ME IN with The S+K Project: Creative networking for anyone who wants to understand the relationship between artist and venues, with a panel chaired by Tobi Kyeremateng. 

Monday 18 June:  INTRODUCTION TO PLAYWRITING with Chloe Todd Fordham (Literary Manager, Graeae), Matilda Ibini (playwright, screenwriter and Resident Artist at Graeae) and Jane Fallowfield (Literary Associate, Talawa)

Monday 25 June: BUILDING A SUPPORT NETWORK with Blacktress UK

Friday 22 June:  A takeover by a new company of Talawa & Graeae artists
