TYPT is a theatre laboratory - a specialised FREE training programme that facilitates collaboration between emerging and established theatre makers. Through a 4-week intensive process, the company will develop devising skills and create a theatre piece from scratch. This is a collaborative process that provides a stepping stone for emerging Black artists, fostering an inclusive and representative safe space for performers, directors, designers and technicians, and more, at the beginning of their careers. The programme will culminate in a series of shows.

For emerging theatre makers, whether working on or off stage, TYPT offers a dedicated space where every part of the creative theatre making process is explored. It is a chance to develop practice, test ideas, and personally develop within a group while creating a brand-new piece of theatre. To create the ideal environment for this we are looking for people who resonate with the values of this programme, which include:

    • Experimentation, play, process-led learning
    • Respect, trust and care for each other
    • Discipline, commitment, and completion of the process
    • Collaboration and teamwork

You will be especially welcome if you are:

    • Considering studying Drama at Higher Education level
    • An actor looking to develop their craft outside of the Higher Education framework
    • A poet/dancer/singer/rapper interested in developing their acting skillset

    Through TYPT we:

    • Create a supportive learning environment that allows participants the opportunity to explore social and cultural issues relevant to them
    • Engage participants in every stage of the creative process allowing them the freedom to create from their own cultural context
    • Provide participants with an invaluable experience of working in a professional theatre environment alongside high-quality theatre practitioners
    • Provide a prominent platform for their work to be seen and voices to be heard

  • TO APPLY, you must be

    • aged 18-25
    • an emerging theatre maker at the start of your career
    • available to participate in the full 4-week programme, with one or two additional dates outside of this.

  • "TYPT allowed me to come out of my shell creatively. It gave me space to be bold and to try and fail so that we could make work that was truthful and inspired." - Mascuud Dahir, TYPT23

"The most valuable part of the TYPT programme was that I was able to learn about every aspect of the theatre production process, working closely with sound and lighting designers, choreographers, dramaturgs, the marketing team and much more! It not only pushed me to become a better performer, but the team created a rehearsal space which allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and further develop my skills as an actor, dancer and mover." - Micaiah John, TYPT23
