Devised by the TYPT:09 company
Directed by Amani Naphtali
Talawa Young People’s Theatre (TYPT) is produced by young people, for young people.
Each year a dynamic group of 18-25 year olds is brought together by Talawa Theatre Company to create a piece of professional theatre that is then produced and staged at a London venue.
The creative process is geared towards the young actors’ own experiences and they inform the whole production – from its initial conception to when the curtain is called. It is relevant. It is powerful. It is made by them.
TYPT presents a unique opportunity for young and ambitious actors and theatre-makers to showcase their talent. Selected through auditions, the group attracts some of the best young BAME talent in Britain.
Participation in TYPT is a valuable addition to their CVs and advances the participants’ careers in the industry. Alumni of TYPT have gone to work with the RSC, BBC and other theatres, including further work with us.
"Multiracial relationships, black male hoodies, authority, Africa, Facebook, MTV, BET, Pop Idol, black women, reality TV and neo black child, are some of the topics tackled in Krunch, sometimes in a light hearted, comical, serious or touching manner. Whatever, the style, it was always thought-provoking."
