A Day In Greenwood, Mississippi
March 27, 1963
Last night two shotgun blasts were fired into the home of Mr Dewey Green, Sr. in Greenwood, Mississippi. Mr Green's sons have both been active in the struggle for civil rights in the South. One applied for admission at the University of Mississippi; the other is active in the Mississippi veter registration project...
...This morning, in what is an obvious answer to white Mississippi's violence, 120 Negro prospective voter applicants gathered in front of Weslian Methodist Church in Greenwood to march on the courthouse and attempt to register to vote.
...Today 100 persons marched in the courthouse in Greenwood. The police set dogs on the people and ten to twelve were arrested, including James Foreman. The police then entered the church head-quarters of the group and arrested more persons. The police are standing in front of the courthouse with guns. A mob of whites is forming.
