Southern America, 1955: A racially motivated murder and a killer above justice
Gallery
Almost fifty years after the birth of the American Civil Rights movement, Talawa Theatre Company and the New Wolsey Theatre join forces to present James Baldwin’s award-winning play Blues For Mr. Charlie - a shocking portrayal of racial hatred and violence in 1950s America.
In the Deep South of America just before the birth of the civil rights movement, local white storekeeper Lyle Britten stands trial accused of killing Richard Henry, a young black man. As the trial unfolds, the simmering tensions in the community reach melting point. In the face of overwhelming evidence, will the all-white jury convict, or is Britten above the law?
