Talawa in Croydon
Back in February 2019, we announced that we are moving to Croydon’s Fairfield Halls. For us, this is a seismic change. It will be the first time, since 1995, that Talawa's home will have included offices with a 200 seater performing and R&D space on site.
Talawa’s new space within Fairfield Halls will operate as a central hub for Black artists, enabling us to develop a community outreach programme, and create, develop and premiere new work.
Besides providing a space for our artist development programme MAKE, the new residency will create opportunities to train young Black artists in technical and creative theatre disciplines, suited to Croydon’s status as the London borough with the largest youth population, working in partnership with organisations in the borough and nationally.
“For Talawa, this building provides a home for Black artists, enabling them to make outstanding work which will truly diversify and shape the cultural life of the whole country.”
