Studio Firsts Activity

Studio Firsts

As winter bites, here at Talawa we are in the middle of Studio Firsts – our programme for emerging theatre makers, offering research and development weeks to experiment with a new idea. Here's what we're up to:

  • Marv Radio spent a week in the Studio on his piece that starts with his birth and tells the story of his scrapes with death including falling from an Amazonian mountain – using music, beat boxing, lyrics and poetry.
  • Louisa Robbins spent a week exploring the cycles we get trapped in – going deep into patterns, tessellations, movement sequences, and poetry.
  • Up next we have Act Up! Newham, a collective of Disabled artists who will explore how we communicate.

In further news, we are wrapping up Year 2 of  MAKE, with our final activity with our collective of artists in Nottingham – an industry meet and greet with local gate keepers and decision makers.  And in London, we have run further workshops with our Graeae/Talawa collective of theatre makers, they have been helping us to plan what the next year will hold for that group as we continue to expand and develop the project.

Building on past partnerships with Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre, Nottingham Playhouse, Camden People's Theatre, Graeae, STUN and VoyaGe Youth. we are delighted to announce our regional partnership for 2019 will be in Plymouth with Beyond Face and Theatre Royal

Look out for opportunities to get involved if you are an artist in the South West looking to develop your skills and your peer networks.
